Drug Tapering
Tapering off psychiatric medications – the Ten Per Cent Theory and equipment that works!!!
There is an enormous amount of fear around tapering off psychiatric drugs. I was warned by pharmacists and uninformed associates and friends not to “mess around” with the medication as it could be dangerous. What I learned over time and a lot of research is that allowing your doctor to reduce your medication by 50 per cent is not only dangerous but irresponsible.
Based on two years’ of experience of coming off Olanzapine I learned – to quote Professor Breggin – that you will definitely need a loved one who is willing to support you through the process of coming off your psych drugs.
The biggest mistake I made was in not heeding all the advice that I had read online by a variety of moral psychiatrists from all the over the world.
The advice on withdrawal dosage is 10 per cent. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY !!!!
Of course, I wanted it to happen quicker so I just thought 25 per cent is fine!!!
Little did we realise that we were setting ourselves up for the biggest withdrawal trauma ever…..
So when I say that we have lived through withdrawal and come out the other side my advice to you is very clear.
Follow these guidelines and also take responsibility for your own guidelines!!
I do not claim to have all the answers! I am certainly not medically qualified. This website is a source of information for you to use at your own discretion.
You need to inform yourself and take full responsibility for your decision to embark on a tapering programme.
Before you even contemplate this, you need a supportive network of friends and family who will support you through the process.
